STUART McCall reckons Greg Abbott will be “re-energised” by his return to the football frontline.

McCall was as surprised as anybody by the news that his former City team-mate and head of recruitment has returned to Notts County as assistant manager.

But he believes the 56-year-old, who was previously in the role at Meadow Lane until 2015, could not resist the chance to get back in the dug-out after a spell of consultancy work.

The Bantams boss said: “I saw Greg saying it came out the blue. But when it’s in you, it’s in you.

“I’ve no doubt he was enjoying the bits and bobs he was doing. But it’s no comparison to actually being in there and having that buzz.

“Obviously he’s been down there before at Notts County. It’s a huge club at that level and I’m pleased for him.

“I know he will enjoy it and I’m sure it will re-energise him.”

Abbott, who left Valley Parade in November 2018, is the new number two to Neal Ardley. He had the same job at Notts before under Shaun Derry.
