PUDSEY St Lawrence skipper Chris Marsden produced his best bowling figures of the season as he guided his side to a 34-run win at Cleckheaton which took them to the top of the Gordon Rigg Premier League Cup’s West Section.

The off spinner took 5-15 as the home side were bowled out for 154 in reply to the St Lawrence total of 188-7.

Mally Nicholson (41), Ethan Lee (36) and Toby Booth (35) tried to stave off a third-successive defeat for Cleckheaton, but that man Marsden had other ideas.

Charlie Best (39) and Charlie Parker (38no) were the main contributors for St Lawrence as Andrew Deegan (4-26) proved to be the best of the Cleckheaton bowlers with his left arm spin.

The win earned St Lawrence 18 points and edged them one ahead on New Farnley who also recorded their third win in three games by defeating Morley by 28 runs.

Morley made New Farnley work hard for their success and nobody battled harder than in-form batsman Steve Bullen. He was the mainstay of their innings with a determined knock of 84 as they made 178-5 batting first.

Morley lost two early wickets before former New Farnley player Jack Rowett (44) and Henry Rush (45) produced a third-wicket partnership of 72, but once they were parted, Alex Lilley (3-20) and Grant Soames (3-29) picked up wickets at regular intervals. Morley finished on 150-9 and remain rooted to the bottom of the table

Hanging Heaton’s batsmen piled up the runs again as they defeated Bradford & Bingley by 181 runs. They amassed 307-8 before bowling out their visitors for 126 to bag a maximum 20 points.

New boy San Drury showed his class again with 91 and added 123 for the second wicket with Joe Fraser (65).

Bradford & Bingley lost early wickets and only an unbeaten 46 from paceman Jack Hartley pushed their score up to 126. James Byrne (3-26) and David Stiff (3-42) did most of the damage.

Batley consolidated their position at the top of the East Section with a 75-run win over Wrenthorpe. Skipper Roheil Hussain was in good all-round form for the leaders. After making 48 and supporting the efforts of Kasir Maroof (51no) in his side’s total of 187-7, Hussain followed up with 4-9 as Wrenthorpe were dismissed for 112.

Only Arjan Ramkumar (32) made an impression as Wrenthorpe’s innings folded to the bowling of Hussain and Mohammed Bhoola (3-31).

Pudsey Congs and East Bierley both recorded their third wins of the campaign to maintain their respective positions at the top of the West and East Sections of the Division One League Cup.

A fourth wicket stand of 115 between skipper Richard Jubb (54no) and Rishi Chopra (55) powered Congs to 200-4 as they defeated Baildon by 80 runs.

Former Congs captain James Ford made 48 for the Jenny Laners, but lacked support, as his side lost their last nine wickets for just 23 runs to be bowled out for 120. Ryan Heptinstall was the chief destroyer with 5-24.

East Bierley’s opener Matthew West was again in the runs as they defeated Keighley by 22 runs. West made 67 and was backed up by Danny Cross (63) as a score of 227-8 was posted.

The highlight of Keighley’s reply was a hard-hitting 59 not out from tail ender James Wilmshurst. He smashed four sixes and five fours in an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership of 77 with Max Davidson which significantly reduced the margin of Keighley’s defeat. Ben Hemsley (37) was the only other batsman to make an impression as spinner Cross picked up 3-43.

East Bierley are 14 points ahead of Carlton who suffered a six-wicket defeat at Gomersal. Big-hitting Farrouk Alam continued his good run of form with 51 but lacked support as his side tumbled to 127 all out with Daniel Syme taking 3-30.

Gomersal made sure of their first win of the season with Jonathan Boynton making an unbeaten 48 to steer them home.

Birstall also broke their duck with a two-wicket victory over Ossett. Josh Haynes made 46 and Charlie Orme a timely 29 not out as they overhauled Ossett’s score of 154. Overseas player Sajith Warnakulasuriya was Ossett’s top scorer with 44.

Bankfoot are second in the West Section after their five-wicket success against Hartshead Moor. Rishi Limbechaya’s battling 72 proved in vain as Hartshead Moor’s score of 142-8 was comfortably overhauled with Hisan Ahmad making 40.

Jer Lane romped to a comfortable five-wicket win over Bowling Old Lane to maintain their position as Division Two West Section leaders.

Mohammed Jamal (5-28) set up their latest success as Bowling Old Lane were bowled out for 155 by their Bradford neighbours. Adam Zahid (44) and Faizan Haider (35) top scored.

Jer Lane were given another rapid start by former Old lane skipper Farakh Hussain who hit 52 from just 25 balls. On-loan Kez Ahmed built on his good work with a knock of 51.

A second-wicket partnership of 121 between Kevin McDermott (61) and Jonathan Burston (67) provided the impetus for Buttershaw St Paul’s to chase down East Ardsley’s 197-9 to win by six wickets after opener Amer Ayoub made 39.

Joshua Wild (48) and Ashley Chapman (37no) were the main contributors for East Ardsley while the pick of the St Paul’s bowlers were James Sawyer (4-33) and Kamran Siddique (3-28).

Scholes skipper Craig Wood produced a fine all-round performance which guided his side to their first win of the season.

Wood made 82 as his side posted 186-9 batting first and followed up with 4-26 as Northowram Field were dismissed for 171 to give Scholes a 15-run triumph. Kyle Welsh (50) and John Li saw Sandal make 210 before dismissing their rivals for 109.

Sandal had a comfortable 101-run win over Spen Victoria in the battle of the East Section’s top two. Solid performances from Danny Riley (58), Matthew Westwood (44) and Ian Shuttleworth (39no) saw Sandal make 210 before bowling out their rivals for 109. Mohammed Dar (42) was the best of the Spen batsmen while Juned Delair (3-37) was the best Sandal bowler.

At the other end of the table, Hunslet Nelson defeated Hopton Mills by 78 runs to record their first win. Jamal Khojani (44) and Patrick Hinchliffe (34) helped Nelson to 202-9. Andy Grey took 4-37 for Mills who were bowled out for 124 when they batted. Alex Rose picked up 3-35 to seal Nelson’s win.

Brighouse are setting the pace in the Division Three League Cup West Section. They maintained their 100 per cent start with a six-wicket win over Heckmondwike & Carlinghow.

Sohail proved to be their match winner with 5-33 as Heckmondwike & Carlinghow were bowled out for 87. It was a total Brighouse comfortably surpassed despite Mohammed Butt taking 3-25.

Crossbank Methodists are second after their four-wicket win over Adwalton. Joel Barnett smashed an unbeaten 60 from just 27 ball with, five sixes and six fours as they overhauled a score of 200-9 to bag 19 points. Matthew Donohoe’s 57 was the highlight for Adwalton.

Altofts stretched their lead to 19 points in the East Section after beating second-placed Rodley by six wickets. Opener Dominic Richardson led the way with 93 as Altofts eased past the Rodley score of 156 which contained half centuries from Luke Cosford (62) and Gary Sagar (51). Elliot Carter was the best Altofts bowlers with 3-50.

Openers Dan Ranasinghe (48) and Oli Baron (42) put on 105 as Great Preston recorded their first win. With James Conlon adding an unbeaten 55, the home side posted 237-8 which proved too big a challenge for Gildersome who were dismissed for 113.

Oulton moved up to second with a 66-run win over East Leeds on Sunday. Jonathan Henshaw (63) and Matt Boucher (51) shared a second-wicket partnership of 110 before they both became victims of Rajab Ali who went on to return the season's best bowling figures of 7-39.

Oulton's total of 188 proved too big a challenge for East Leeds as they were bowled out for 122. Ben Wilkinson top scored with 31 as Ryan Healey took 3-13.
