CARLISLE United have made a double swoop for two former Bradford City players, with the club having signed both Danny Devine and Joe Riley over the past few days.

Upon his release from City at the end of the season, 22-year-old Devine, who made 53 first-team outings for the club, told the Telegraph & Argus' Simon Parker: “I am disappointed how it ended.

“But maybe it was time for me to move on and look for a new challenge.

“Obviously I got to play for my home-town club, but I would have like to have had more games than I did. But I can’t change anything.

“The fans were good to me throughout my whole time. From the moment I broke through, they never really had a bad word to say.

“But I think it may help me if I go somewhere else.

“I won’t be seen as the young lad coming through or whatever and seen as the easy option to leave out. Hopefully that won’t happen if I get a new club.”

Meanwhile, poor Riley is hoping for a fresh start in Cumbria after a torrid time at City. He joined the club two years ago, but featured just eight times in the 2018/19 season.

He then suffered a terrible injury in the summer of 2019, damaging his cruciate in pre-season training, meaning he did not play a single game for the Bantams last term.

Finally, Jordan Gibson, who was also released by City at the end of the season, joined Irish side St Patrick's Athletic late last month.
