Airienteers members had a choice of orienteering events at the weekend and there were impressive displays at both.

A South East Lancashire district event at Lever Park, near Horwich, saw Aire take three of the first four places over the longest (blue) course.

Steve Watkins of Baildon continued his recent impressive form to win in 38min 23sec ahead of George Stevens and fellow Ilkley runner Peter Haines, who was fourth.

The run of the day for Aire in the Sheffield district event at Bentley Woods, near Doncaster, came from Joe Woodley (M12) as his time of 30.43 headed a field of 50, including many adults, over the 3.9km green course.

At junior level, James Avis was a winner for Aire on the 2.9km orange course, as was Ben Say on the 1.7km white course.

Over 50 youngsters will represent Airienteers this weekend in the final of the Yvette Baker Trophy, the annual national inter-club competition for juniors. This year it is at Normanby Park in Scunthorpe.

Airienteers are also holding an informal event at Middleton Woods on Saturday at Middleton Woods in Ilkley.

This is an ideal opportunity for newcomers to sample the sport. Registration is at 12.30pm and starts are from 1pm.
