Bradford Dudley Hill were left to count the cost of moving back joint top of National Conference League Division One after a hard-earned 20-10 victory at Ince Rose Bridge.
Hooker Jimmy Hinnigan suffered a badly broken leg in the first half and he will miss the rest of the season.
Hill head coach Paul Baxter reflected: "It was a dog-fight from start to finish in heavy conditions and Liam Jarvis did a cracking job as Jimmy's replacement.
"Sean Dickinson was our stand-out player in his new position at blind-side prop."
Hill were never behind in an enthralling encounter which saw Jarvis and Danny Herbert reach the whitewash.
There was also a telling contribution from scrum half Tony Williams, who posted a try and four goals.
