BRADFORD & Bingley recorded their first win in the West Section of the Gordon Rigg Premier Division Cup by chasing down Cleckheaton’s 206-7 with just two wickets down.

New signing Charlie Davy (75 not out) saw them to their target with 15 balls to spare.

Cleckheaton’s new signings Toby Booth (70) and Kris Ward (60) both scored half centuries for the second week in a row, but their efforts were not enough to prevent a second defeat, as Ed Brown picked up 3-33 for Bradford & Bingley.

But it was New Farnley and Pudsey St Lawrence who recorded comfortable wins to share the early lead of that section.

The Saints romped to an eight-wicket victory over Morley while New Farnley bowled out Wrenthorpe for just 85 on their way to a nine-wicket success in their Inter-Divisional fixture.

Young spin bowlers played key roles in the triumphs for the joint leaders. Archie Scott (5-31) and Jude Roberts (3-26) sparked a dramatic Morley collapse which saw them slump from 120-2 to 153 all out, while off spinner Lewis Lomax starred with 5-20 as New Farnley skittled out Wrenthorpe.

Opener Mark Robertshaw (69no), Chris Marsden (43) and Barrie Frankland (40no) ensured St Lawrence bagged a maximum 20 points against Morley, whose only bright spot was the innings of 49 from Oliver Halliday.

New Farnley were guided to their meagre victory target by Steve Bullen. He made an unbeaten 51, his second half century in successive games.

Batley produced the performance of the day to defeat Townville by four wickets with two balls to spare as they took the early lead of the East Section.

Mohammed Bhoola took 10 runs from the first four balls of the final over from on-loan Muhammad Bilal to crown a rousing recovery from 76-5 to overhaul Townville’s 200-8.

Bhoola (48no), Imran Mahboob (44) and Adnan Mahmood (37no) were the men who turned the game in Batley’s favour.

Townville opener Jonny Booth continued his sparkling start to the season with 62 when Townville batted first, while Bilal made 40.

New signing Sam Drury impressed as Hanging Heaton moved into second place in the section after romping home by eight wickets against Methley. Drury took 4-19 as Methley were restricted to 145-9 and followed up with an impressive 83. Jason Marshall (44) was Methley’s top scorer.

The Division One League Cup was the place for close finishes, with Pudsey Congs and Baildon both winning by one wicket with one ball to spare.

Congs have now won both their opening games by one wicket and are the early leaders of the West Section with 33 points.

Last man Jamie Allen scrambled a single to edge his side past Bankfoot’s total of 132 all out. Congs’ hopes of victory were under threat when they slipped to 13-3, but an unbeaten 28 from Ryan Heptinstall proved vital in staving off the threat of Jawad Waheed (3-26) and Hamza Iqbal (3-26).

Bankfoot’s innings had again been dominated by captain James Lee. He carried his bat for an unbeaten 61 as left-arm spinner Sam Wisniewski (4-31) posed problems.

Sam Kelly proved to be the match winner for Baildon. After taking 4-45 with the ball as Keighley were bowled out for 155, Kelly scrambled the single from the fifth ball of the final over that sealed his side’s victory. Mohammed Khuzaifa (31) and James Ford (30) were the main contributors for the Jenny Laners.

Carlton are setting the pace in the East Section after a 22-run win over Hartshead Moor in their Inter-Divisional fixture.

Daniel Ford and Farouk Alam, who both hit centuries in their opening day win over Birstall, were in good form again. Alam made 75 and Ford 69, as they shared a third wicket stand of 136, which helped propel Carlton to 225-5.

Hartshead Moor made a spirited 203-8 in reply with Craig Field hitting 81 and Joe Wood 43. That man Alam chipped in with 3-54 as Carlton triumphed by 22 runs.

East Bierley are two points behind Carlton after securing a six-wicket win over Birstall. Paul Martin smashed six sixes and 10 fours as he hit an unbeaten 99 from just 56 balls in the successful pursuit of Birstall’s 245-7.

Opener Matthew West followed up his debut century with a knock of 59, which set the tempo for the East Bierley reply.

The highlight of the Birstall innings, which included useful contributions from Rob McFarlane (42) and Nick Kaye (38), was Graeme Winn’s 64 from 37 balls.

Dan Busfield (4-34) and Max Chappell (4-34) helped bowl out Gomersal for 88 as Ossett secured a 118-run win.

Harvey Anderson (45) and Joe Finnigan (43) helped Ossett to make 206-9 as spinner Chris Greenwood picked up 3-32 for Gomersal.

Opener Farakh Hussain blasted 50 from just 19 balls as Jer Lane went top of the Division Two League Cup West Section with a one-wicket win over Northowram Fields.

Hussain hit seven sixes and a four as his side scored 63 in 4.3 overs, but once he departed things became tougher for his side.

They needed a patient 34 not out from on-loan Woodlands player Kez Ahmed to edge past Northowram Fields’ score of 131.

Jack Seddon was another batsman in a hurry, The Buttershaw St Paul’s wicketkeeper hit six sixes and nine fours while scoring 86 from 48 balls in his side’s 47-run victory over Bowling Old Lane.

Jamie Robson (39) helped swell the St Paul’s total to 231-8 and that proved to be too big a challenge for Old Lane who were dismissed for 184. Kevin McDermott took 3-15 for St Paul’s.
