WITH the coarse season having begun last week, there are more and more angling reports coming in regarding matches taking place.

Here is this week's news from four different clubs:

BINGLEY ANGLING CLUB

Coppice Pond will be closed this Sunday for a limited members match, with the draw at 7am in the car park.

Fishing is from 8am to 2pm. Members will be allowed to fish after the weigh in, probably from 3pm onwards.

An angler was caught in the grounds of Flint Mill at Wray Wood last weekend. He claimed he was trying to find a short way out of the fishery. This area is well fenced and signposted as private.

Any member found entering the grounds or gardens of Flint Mill without express permission of the owners will have their membership of the club terminated, and may be prosecuted by the landowner.

CLAYTON AC

The result of the match at Brafferton, Ghost Lake on June 21 (29 fished) was: 1. Jason Craig 53lb 11oz, 2. Bernard Price 48lb 14oz, 3. Steve Fairbrother 40lb 5oz.

The section winners were Steff Armitage, Steve Charge, Steve Vaughan, Peter Foulds and Derek Milner, while the team winners were Bernard Price, Chris Slinger and Colin Mortimer.

The next match is at Tollerton on July 12.

LISTERHILLS A.A.

We have just learnt of the recent death of Ron Fearnley. He will be remembered by our older members for the part he played in the 1970s and 1980s, during the club's good run in national championships.

The result of the Wednesday match on the canal was: 1. B. Mason 1lb 14.5oz, 2. R. Thornton 1lb 14oz, 3. G. Watson 1lb 6.5oz.

Next week's match will also be at Armley, with a running draw at 5pm to 5:15pm.

LEEDS & DISTRICT A.S.A.

There has been an upsurge in membership in recent weeks.

Barbel anglers on the Lower Wharfe have reported several multiple catches, but no fish of outstanding size.

This Sunday's match is at Ulleskelf for the Sykes Cup.
