NEWCASTLE-BORN Ralph Wright, who joined Bradford (Park Avenue) from Norwich City in October 1969, has died aged 72.

A defender-cum-midfielder, Wright made 14 league appearances for Avenue in their final season in the Football League.

The former ex-English amateur international actually played under three managers at Avenue.

Manager Laurie Brown, who resigned shortly after arranging Wright’s move from Norwich, was replaced by caretaker boss Don McCalman, whose tenure lasted until February 1970, when Frank Tomlinson was appointed.

Wright moved to Hartlepool on a free transfer in July 1970, and later appeared for Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers and Southport.

He was part of the Bolton team which won the Third Division title in 1972/73 under Jimmy Armfield.

In-between two spells with Southport, he appeared for New York Cosmos, playing alongside the great Pele.

He also played for Miami Toros and Dallas Tornado.
