City reserves 4 Hartlepool reserves 3

With Barnsley already having qualified for the next round, only pride was at stake as City entertained Hartlepool in their final game of the Pontin's Holidays League Cup.

And they didn't disappoint, winning a seven-goal thriller 4-3.

City had Thai international Jamie Waite in goal, having signed earlier in the day until the end of the season - having been on non-contract forms this season with St Albans City.

It wasn't long before he was picking the ball out of the back of the net after Matty Robson headed Pools into an 11th minute lead.

On the half hour City were level after the ball was neatly volleyed home by Tom Penford from a Barry Conlon cross.

City took the lead with an easy tap-in from Conlon before Tom Harban cleared a shot off the line.

Three minutes after the break City went 3-1 in front when Conlon delicately headed the ball over keeper Scott Allison.

Luke Medley coolly slotted home the fourth before the visitors pulled two goals back late on.

City reserves: Waite, Harban, O'Brien, Bentham, Bowes, Lucio, Penford, Joynes, Conlon, Medley, Taylforth. Subs: Bleau, Filler, Newton, Sheridan, Smith.
