MACCLESFIELD Town have been hit with fresh English Football League charges over late payment of wages.
The Sky Bet League Two club have already been deducted a total of 11 points this season, for offences including late payments to players.
A club statement read: "Macclesfield Town can confirm that notification has been received from the English Football League, which charges the club with further regulation breaches - all of which are relating to the payment of salaries due at the end of March 2020."
The club say they are "deeply surprised" by the charges and intend to appeal them "vehemently".
The matter has now been referred to an independent panel.
Macclesfield are currently only three points clear of rock-bottom Stevenage, so any further points deduction would almost certainly see them drop to the foot of the League Two table.
With League Two clubs set to vote to curtail the season (except the end of season promotion play-offs) next week, it remains to be seen whether the bottom side would get relegated from the division.
