WELL-known City fan Ron Carney, who has died aged 73, became an adopted Bradfordian despite being born in Lancaster.

He came to West Yorkshire as a young lad and grew up to support his local club. He was a regular face outside grounds following City all over the country.

Ron used to play football and cricket and took up refereeing where he reached North West Counties League standard. He also ran the first Bradford marathon in 1982.

Despite having a leg amputated, he hardly missed a City game home or away in the last 25 years and travelled with the Shipley Bantams.

Ron leaves wife Brenda and brothers Michael and Trevor, as well as his children and grandchildren.
