BRADFORD City Women’s season in the FA Women’s National League Division One North has officially been declared null and void.

The decision, made by the Football Association, was made yesterday afternoon - amid the continuing outbreak of coronavirus.

No more fixtures in the FA Women’s National League North will take place this season, with all previous results this campaign being eradicated, and no promotions or relegations taking place.

City were bottom of the league with just seven points, so can perhaps count themselves slightly fortunate to have this reprieve, though of course, they would not have wanted it to happen in these circumstances.

In their statement, the FA announced that seasons at all levels below the Women’s Championship will be declared null and void, including at grassroots level.

Women’s boss Chris Hames, who was formerly manager of Sheffield FC, said: “Following the announcement our season is now over, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who makes this club so special.

“When I first joined, just before Christmas, I could never have envisaged that this would be the way the season ended.

“However, there are much bigger things right now. I hope everyone stays safe and well and, when we return to action, will be there to get going again.”

City had themselves started to get going before the abandonment of the season.

Aside from a couple of thumping January wins in the West Riding County Cup against Thackley (10-2) and Brayton Belles (11-1), they had picked up four points from their last four league games.

These came courtesy of a 2-2 draw at home with mid-table Chester le Street Town in February and an excellent 3-2 away win at Norton & Stockton Ancients on March 1.
