AFTER a great showing from Bradford City Women last week in beating Norton & Stockton Ancients, they were on their travels again, but this time suffered a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool Feds.

The Feds sat fourth in the FA Women's National League Division One North heading into this clash, but had only narrowly beaten the rock-bottom Bantams on two previous occasions this season.

Liverpool started this game with a strong wind at their backs and on 15 minutes, they lofted a hopeful free-kick into the box and the referee awarded them a penalty for a high foot.

That was converted, giving Feds the lead. They were denied what looked to be a stonewall second penalty later in the half, and were only a goal up at the break.

Player of the match Charlotte Gill came on for her debut in the second half and was really impressive on the ball for City, winning several free kicks in dangerous areas

The game got fiery in the second period, as Bantams captain Katy Woodcock was shown a yellow card for a heavy challenge and the referee had words with several Feds players about dangerous tackles.

This suited Feds, who soaked up City's pressure and were clinical on the break, scoring twice against the run of play.

The first was a well-taken 20-yard strike and the second an unfortunate own goal that deflected off a couple of Bantams defenders.

Manager Chris Hames was disappointed with the result, but is ready for the next challenge.

He said: “I didn’t think we were great, and to come here and compete with a team like Feds you have to have a good day.

“They asked a lot of questions, and we didn’t always have the answers. But we see this as another game that we can learn from, and another chance to develop the team.

“We have another tough game coming up next week (away to Barnsley), and need to have another good week to prepare ourselves for another opportunity of three points.”
