CITY were beaten 3-1 by a strong Burnley side in today’s behind-closed-doors friendly.

The Premier League hosts, who included Ashley Barnes and Aaron Lennon in an experienced line-up, scored twice in the last five minutes.

City scored via an own goal from Shay McCartan’s corner. Chris Taylor also hit the post.

Reece Staunton impressed boss Stuart McCall at left back as he handled the pace of former England winger Lennon.

Paudie O’Connor suffered a stud down his shin but should be okay for the weekend. Adam Henley also came off as a precaution after taking a whack on the foot.

City played a midfield diamond with Danny Devine at the base, Taylor and Harry Pritchard either side and youngster Kian Scales at the top. McCartan and Gibson were up front.

McCall said: “It was an encouraging performance and we played some good stuff. It was definitely a worthwhile exercise.”
