STUART McCall is looking for home comforts to revive City’s flagging fortunes.

The Bantams return to Valley Parade against Plymouth this weekend after losing successive away games from winning positions.

That double disappointment has seen McCall’s men drift in the race for League Two’s top seven and they are now four points behind the last play-off spot.

But McCall hopes Saturday can provide a much-needed lift from a home record which is still among the best in the division.

“We’ve got to forget what’s just gone recently,” he said. “But if you want to hang on to anything, hang on to the atmosphere of the game against Grimsby.

“Remember that and remember the last time you walked off Valley Parade with a 3-1 victory. There are two positives mindset-wise.

“I was at Plymouth’s game at Macclesfield last Tuesday night and they took 750 fans. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if they are up near the 1,000.

“I always think that when the away team bring a healthy support, the home supporters react to that and that’s what we’re after.”

McCall’s return for his third spell in charge was greeted with Valley Parade’s biggest crowd of the season of 17,668 for the 1-1 draw with Grimsby – 2,500 more than the previous high against Mansfield just after Christmas.

City followed that up with a come-from-behind victory over bottom club Stevenage, their only win in the last 11 games.

But back-to-back losses on the road, continuing the poor away form towards the end of Gary Bowyer’s tenure, have cast them adrift of the promotion pack.

McCall added: “We’ve been kicked in the teeth twice with two difficult results after going a goal up.

“One, yeah, was wind-affected and all that nonsense and Saturday maybe pitch-affected.

“We’re back at Valley Parade and looking forward to it – you’ve got to because it’s your next game and next opportunity to get three points.”

City have lost only twice in 17 home outings, the last against Port Vale in October. Six of their 11 games left are at Valley Parade.

McCall said: “That’s what we’ve got to grasp on to and fly with the remaining home games that we’ve got.

“But take it one at a time and Saturday is one to be excited about.

“Plymouth are a footballing side. People tell me they are one of the best sides in the league so it’s a good challenge for us.

“You look at the squad that they’ve got and how Ryan Lowe has moulded them. He’s done a fantastic job at this moment in time.

“But we’re on our patch and we’ve got to look back on the last two home games and take some confidence.

“If we can have the Grimsby atmosphere and the Stevenage result, everyone would go home happy.”

McCall continues to monitor Callum Cooke and Kelvin Mellor but is "optimistic" about them both being available.
