FARSLEY Celtic made two new signings in the run up to their National North home game against former Huddersfield Town boss Lee Clarke’s Blyth Spartans - but it was two of their stalwarts who got the goals in their 2-0 win.

The Celts signed Bradford-born midfielder Ellis Hudson and former Leeds United prospect Callum Nicell, who spent 12 years with the Whites and, although he made the bench on several occasions, he never played for the first team.

Hudson was released by Bradford City in 2018 and, having spent time on loan with Harrogate Town and Guiseley, he opted for a spell abroad and moved to the USA.

Having signed the day before, he came on as a second-half substitute against Blyth to make his Celts debut.

He came on for another former Bantam in Dave Syers, who had laid the foundations for the Celts’ victory.

Syers netted midway through the first half but from an offside position. However, it was a mere delay as he opened the scoring in the 38th minute after being played through with only keeper Zach Hemming to beat.

Farsley striker Jimmy Spencer hit a post late in the first half but just minutes after the hour mark Spencer was unmarked at the far post as he slotted in the home side’s second.

Farsley are due back in action - weather permitting - in their West Riding County Cup semi-final at Thackley tomorrow night.

Brighouse Town won a seven-goal thriller at home to haul themselves above BetVictor North West mid-table rivals Dunston FC.

The Geordie visitors took a 20th minute lead through Liam Marrs but Jack Boyle hit back minutes later. Dunston still took a lead into the break after Mark Fitzpatrick was fouled in the area and he got up to send the resulting penalty past home keeper Jordan Porter.

Brighouse had the better of the second half with goals from Joe Jagger, Reece Kendall and substitute Eddie Church giving them a two-goal lead before the visitors’ Luke Page pegged a goal back in injury time to make it 4-3.

Campion won at leaders Winterton Rangers in Division One of the Northern Counties East League but, with the other three clubs above them all winning, the red and blacks remain in fifth spot.

Aidan Kirby broke the deadlock just a minute after the interval. Rangers hit back with a Nathan Peat free-kick but late goals from Andy McCreadie and Leon Hurles-Brook saw James Bicknell and Lee Ashforth’s side to a 3-1 win.

Eccleshill United made a short journey in the Premier Division but they suffered defeat, going down 2-1 at Garforth Town.

The Miners got off to a great start with a brace from Alex Burton giving them a two-goal lead inside 12 minutes. The Eagles grabbed a consolation when substitute Ibrahim Najeh denied home keeper Toby Wells a clean sheet.

Thackley, Liversedge and Silsden all had their matches rained off.
