STUART McCall accused City of throwing the game away after they went down 2-1 at Newport.

Clayton Donaldson headed the Bantams ahead but the home side, who had not scored in their previous four league games, hit back with two in a four-minute spell.

It is now 11 games without an away win as McCall’s men slipped four points behind the last play-off spot.

The City boss was annoyed that both Newport goals came from corners.

“We showed a mental fragility,” he said.

“Sometimes you see clever corners, people get blocks, well-worked ones. It wasn’t that – it was about taking responsibility for your man and we didn’t do that.

“We showed it back to the lads straight away in the dressing room and they saw why but it’s too late then.

“Newport had not scored for a while and they were a bit fragile themselves. Then you get a goal and should have gone on from there but we threw it away.

“It’s not an Oldham or a Mansfield but they’ve had three corners and scored from two. We’ve had to defend corners and long throws today and not done it and that’s ultimately cost us the game.”
