Hereford 0, Leeds United 0

Leeds United clung on for a replay after League Two opponents Hereford gave them a kingsize scare in the first ever meeting between the clubs at Edgar Street.

Leeds were well below their best as they figured in their first goalless draw of the season but will now be big favourites to win the first-round replay at Elland Road.

United escaped a confident penalty claim in the opening two minutes from leading scorer Trevor Ben-jamin.

Former Huddersfield Town defender John McCombe and Tresor Kandol had an intriguing battle for supremacy but it was a largely disjointed first half.

There was an improvement from both sides after the interval and Leeds rode their luck when keeper Casper Ankergren failed to gather Lionel Ainsworth's corner and Benjamin headed against the outside of a post.

Theo Robinson also went close for the home team before Ben Parker's nimble sprint and shot brought a good save from Wayne Brown.

Leeds' acting captain Jonathan Douglas collected his fourth booking of the season for fouling Benjamin and Hereford central defender Karl Broadhurst was carried off soon after the hour to be replaced by Kris Taylor.

Parker, on loan at City last year, was shown a yellow card and was fortunate that it wasn't red as Robinson threatened to race clear.

Leeds brought on Portuguese winger Filipe Da Costa, Leon Constantine and Jamie Clapham in the hope of opening up the Here-ford defence but the League Two side finished the stronger.

They caused another scare when Ainsworth's goal-bound header was superbly saved by Ankergren and McCombe wasted a golden close-in chance by shooting wide.
