KEIGHLEY Cougars have announced the signing of utility back Steven Hayes.
He came in on trial from Castleford-based amateur side Lock Lane and made a good impression on Cougars head coach Rhys Lovegrove in pre-season.
Hayes certainly endeared himself to the Keighley faithful too, running in to score from 35 metres out in his new side's 18-18 draw with Sheffield Eagles in their last pre-season game.
The former Cougars reserve will now wear the number 31 shirt for the first team in 2020.
The signing formed part of a good week off the field for Cougars, who also appointed Kyle Kesik and Benn Hardcastle as captain and vice-captain respectively, a decision which seemed to go down well with fans.
