A BRADFORD boxer produced a huge shock by downing an opposing fighter with more experience to capture the Youth Yorkshire title.

Huzaifah Ahmed comfortably out-boxed Sheffield's Harrison Bouzin to win by a unanimous decision on the referee's scorecard at the England Boxing show in Halifax.

Ahmed stepped up to the 3x3 minute rounds for the first time in his early career after previously only boxing two rounders.

The new champion was ecstatic with the win and gave great credit to those around him who ensured that focus was not lost.

He said: "I'm so proud of my achievement.

"I sacrificed so much in training six times a week, eating clean, training twice a day and managing my studies.

"I have my main coach Ali to thank so much - without him I don't know where I would be.

"He is more than a coach to us. He invests all his time in me, planning my diet, sparring and training."

Ahmed added: "I would also like to thank my two special coaches Julian Moore and Joe Elsworth.

"Joe travels from Leeds to train myself and other boxers, three evenings a week to Bradford Police Boxing Club.

"He is a very experienced coach and is always giving me technical tips to keep me sharp."

Coach Ali was delighted for his young fighter and also handed out praise to those who have helped Ahmed along the way.

Ali said: "I'm so proud of Huzaifah, he has made himself and his family proud.

"He boxed to the game plan myself and Joe (Elsworth) set for him.

"Huzaifah deserves it. He worked very hard and sacrificed a lot.

"I would like to thank two boxing gyms who have worked closely with myself to prepare Huzaifah.

"WarriorBreed based in Dewsbury and Mick Rowe's Halifax Boxing Club for helping me with all the sparring"

"I would also like to thank Julian Moore of Bradford Police Boxing Gym. He has spent more than 60 years giving service as a volunteer boxing coach to the community.

"He's always the first coach to be in gym and the last one to leave.

"At the age of 73 he still attends the gym four nights a week giving pad work and footwork tips.

"More importantly he spends a lot of time advising boxers on keeping safe off streets, not getting any trouble."
