IT may only be January but two more all-time Ilkley Harriers records were broken in the last week.

Just seven days on from Jack Wood's fastest-ever half marathon, Hilda Coulsey and Sally Malir underlined their names in the club's record books.

They both took part in the Essar Four Villages Half Marathon on Sunday in Cheshire.

Their performances were all the more remarkable as the course was described as 'undulating', the temperature was barely above freezing and the area was enveloped in fog.

Coulsey already held the LV65 record but she lopped off an impressive four minutes with her time of 1:51.51.

And Malir took Christine Mathews' 10-year-old LV55 record by a minute and a half thanks to her 1:35.57.

It all means the pair now monopolise the Harriers' 13.1-mile rankings for the LV45, LV50, LV55, LV60 and LV65 categories.

There was also an excellent time from Daryl King who clocked 1:36.52.

Also in the north-west on Sunday was the Inskip Half Marathon.

Helen Waddington was the sole Harrier representative at an event which takes advantage of the mainly flat and quiet country roads around villages near Preston.

And she made a great start to the year with a time of 1:49.30.

Stepping up slightly in distance, Adela Reperecki took on the Hebden Short Route of 15 miles, finishing in three hours and 12 minutes.

The title is slightly misleading - with the 'short' moniker only in relation to the longer 22-mile option - both of them challenging loops from Mytholmroyd.

The third PECO Cross Country race at Crimple Valley near Harrogate saw fantastic performances from Dan McKeown and Steve Gott.

They were 15th and 16th respectively while Malcolm Pickering was third in the MV65 category, the trio helping Ilkley into second in the Men's Vets First Division, just behind Harrogate Harriers.

And there was another good turnout from the Junior Ilkley Harriers at the same event, with some strong performances in all the age groups.

There was a win for Emily Gibbons in the years 9-11 girls race and Iris Smith and Amelia Nichols came home second and third in the years 2-4 girls race.

It was also a second and third in the years 7-8 boys race for Alexander Wolfenden and Archie Budding, with Robert Carter running well for second in the boys race for years 2-4.

On the Parkrun front, there were some eye-catching displays. Mike Abrams-Cohen was second at Cliffe Castle, just winning a thrilling sprint for the runner-up spot.

Ali McInnes was third at Alness, while Geoff Howard's time of 22:15 at York puts him top of the UK Parkrun standings for 2020 in the MV75 age category.
