BRADFORD City fans have voted for Stephen Darby as their player of the decade for the 2010s in a social media poll run by the club.

The popular right back beat Gary Jones to the award by a narrow 128 votes.

Darby, who recorded 194 league appearances for the Bantams in a five-year spell, finished on 1743 votes with fellow former captain Jones ending on 1615.

City fans packed out Valley Parade for a friendly against Liverpool back in July to support the defender after his career was cut short due to his diagnosis of motor neurone disease.

Nahki Wells finished third (1583) in the poll while James Meredith propped up the rest by collecting 296 votes.

There was some surprise that striker James Hanson - who sits third in the all-time Bantams goalscorers list with 91 - was not included on the list of voting options.

But the shortlist was drawn from the four players with the most overall votes in the Team of the Decade poll also run by the club.
