LUKE McGee is coming to City after saying his goodbyes at Portsmouth.

The Bantams have confirmed the goalkeeper has signed on loan at Valley Parade until the end of the season.

McGee’s arrival will provide cover after ever-present Richard O’Donnell’s hamstring injury at Crawley last week.

O’Donnell has been ruled out for up to four weeks.

McGee, who has has kept 22 clean sheets in 83 Sky Bet League One appearances having also played for Peterborough, said: “It feels really really good to be here and I cannot wait to get going.

“As soon as I got the call it was somewhere I knew I wanted to come, with the size of the club and fanbase.

“I want to bring as many clean sheets as possible to help the lads perform, win as many games as we can and and climb the league table.”

Blackpool’s current search for a keeper was thought to have included the 24-year-old McGee, which could potentially have scuppered City’s plans.

But Bowyer has got his man as McGee, who saw a move to Cheltenham fall through last week, looks to kick-start a career that has stalled with Pompey.

Having played 50 games in 2017-2018, he has found himself out of contention and has not played since a Football League Trophy tie against Arsenal under-21s 13 months ago.

Bowyer said: “We are delighted at being able to bring Luke in and thank Portsmouth for allowing him to join us.

“He brings experience of playing in Sky Bet League One - in front of big crowds."

The 6ft 3in keeper comes into contention for City's home game against Scunthorpe on Saturday following the loss of O'Donnell.

Bowyer said: “Rich has been one of our most consistent performers this season and has operated at a very high level.”

“We are all disappointed with the news of his injury and know he is working hard to get back as soon as possible.”
