CITY’S FA Youth Cup adventure is over after they were beaten 5-0 by Chelsea tonight.
Mark Trueman’s youngsters were massive underdogs for the fourth-round tie at Aldershot against a home side who had won the trophy seven times in the last decade.
But they started well and Dan Francis came within a whisker of giving City a fifth-minute lead.
Chelsea broke the deadlock five minutes later as Armando Broja, who scored a hat-trick against Huddersfield in the previous round, converted Tino Livramento’s cross.
City went 2-0 down soon after when Broja’s shot was kept out but Marcel Lewis bundled the loose ball over the line.
City keeper Jack Barrett pulled off some crucial saves, including a superb double effort from Myles Peart-Harris.
But Barrett was beaten again seven minutes into the second half by Henry Lawrence after a break from Livramento and Xavier Simons.
Lewis made it 4-0 soon after the hour with a shot in off the post before sub Thierno Ballo’s effort took a wicked deflection past Barrett for Chelsea’s fifth.
