THE Bulls will step out at a packed-out Headingley tomorrow to do Rob Burrow proud.

A 20,000 capacity crowd will watch them take on Leeds Rhinos in Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s testimonial.

But the game will also act as a fund-raiser for Burrow and his family after the Leeds legend was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

The bombshell news has rocked the sport to its core and John Kear insists the Bulls will play their part for Burrow on what will be a hugely emotional afternoon.

He said: “I want us to do Rob Burrow justice.

“This isn’t about Bradford or John Kear, although it’s obviously assisting in our preparation towards the season.

“But the big objective this week is to do Rob proud. If we walk off doing that, I’ll be a very happy man and smiling very widely.”

The match is being broadcast live on Sky Sports, who have waived their fees with staff all working for free.

Every ticket has been snapped up for a pre-season friendly that will be played in a unique atmosphere.

Kear admits it will be a privilege for the Bulls to be involved.

“It’s going to be absolutely phenomenal,” he added. “It’s televised, it’s going to be a full house and it makes for a great occasion.

“Our job is to provide the entertainment and that’s what we’ll endeavour to do.”

Former playing heroes from both sides will add further spice when they come on to feature in the closing part of the game.

There has been a buzz about the Bulls training in the build-up, although Kear feels that has been the case since they came back in November.

After the financial uncertainty surrounding the club, he believes they are much more secure than 12 months ago.

The Bulls coach said: “I can’t fault anyone because our conditioning, medical and coaching staff and the players have been outstanding. It’s been such a high standard.

“Everybody feels more comfortable, not just me. There is an air of anticipation and excitement but also stability.

“Although we tried to portray that last year, I think we were like the old swans paddling frantically underneath the water.

“We’re in a much better place as a club and as a squad.

“People might not think that with the personnel we’ve lost but sometimes it isn’t just about that.

“It’s about the team and the general culture. It’s just a really good place to be.”

The Bulls are expected to announce a dual-reg partner next week but the focus now for Kear is on doing it right at Headingley.

“We’re going to turn a very strong team out and we’re going to give the occasion the respect it deserves.

“We hope to perform really well so it is a great game for some great people and obviously it will be made a great occasion when you see some of these legends coming on for Bradford and more especially from the Rhinos.

“It is Rob’s day and should be celebrated as such.”
