STEETON lost 4-1 at home to 10th placed Chadderton in the North West Counties League Division One North after conceding three late goals.

The Chevrons nearly got off to a great start when Kayle Price was brought down at the edge of the box.

Luke Baldwin took the free-kick which was saved by Jordan Hadlow.

Steeton come close to scoring again after Price hit the crossbar and the ball bounced onto the goal-line in the 27th minute.

It took 38 minutes for the first goal to be scored as the visitors went ahead when Arron Scholes’ deflected shot left Steeton’s keeper, Danny Thorpe, stranded.

The score remained 1-0 until an action-packed final ten minutes.

Steeton equalised on 82 minutes when substitute Raymond Sibanda was brought down in the box and Luke Baldwin stepped up for the penalty and slotted home.

That scoreline soon changed from the kick-off as Chadderton’s James Dwyer rifled a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

In the 86th minute, Chadderton all but sealed the points when Dion Bates added a third and they put the icing on the cake with a penalty from Scholes deep into stoppage time to make it 4-1.

The disappointing result for Roy Mason's men leave them still bottom of the table by a point.

Steeton will aim to bounce back at Bacup Borough on Saturday.

Meanwhile, two local Northern Counties East League Premier Division sides go head to head at Dennyfield this weekend.

Thackley host Albion Sports hoping to build on their eye-catching win at Goole which put them eighth. However, a win for Albion would put them level on points with their rivals with a game in hand.

Thackley players will wear blank armbands as mark of respect following the death of junior player Harris Thompson.
