BRADFORD City Women smashed their way into the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup by recording a 10-2 victory over local rivals Thackley.

The Bantams followed last season's 3-0 cup victory over the Dennyladies with an even more convincing scoreline this time out.

And Falone Sumaili led the way with a hat-trick, with City announcing today the star striker has been selected for Burundi's upcoming international with Ethiopia.

Although, Chris Hames' ladies had to wait until the 40th minute to open the scoring after smacking the post twice and squandering several chances.

It was an eventful end to the half though - firstly Charlotte Stuart finished from a Monika Stube cross.

The West Riding Premier League side responded immediately to hit City on the break and while the hosts' defence stopped to appeal for an off side decision, the Thackley forward ran through to equalise slotting the ball neatly in the corner.

There was just enough time for Bradford to re-take the lead through an own goal.

After the break it was City who found their rhythm scoring three quick goals to settle the tie.

Harriet Jakeman, Ellie Prothero, Zoe Roberts all got on the scoresheet while Sumaili took the plaudits with her triple.

Thackley did get a goal back and were unfortunate to end the game with 10 players due to an injury.

After the game Hames was pleased with the second half in which City played some really good flowing football and most importantly added the finishes they lacked in the first period.

The Bantams boss was also extremely delighted with Sumali's performance and thinks she could have added more to her tally.

He said: “The motivation came from the players themselves.

"We turned it around and achieved our expectations which they then followed through in the second half and got the goals.

"She (Sumali) showed so much quality in front of goal but did a lot more than just score goals.

"She offered a lot throughout the game and she was unlucky not to score a 4th instead of an own goal.

"It was a confidence boost for her and for the whole team.”

Speaking on how he thinks his time has gone in charge after taking over a month a half ago, Hames added: “Its been a good experience and its been great to settle in and get everything going.”

The Bantams will play more West Riding Premier League opposition in the next round as they host Brayton Belles in a fortnight's time.
