LIVERSEDGE twice came from a goal down to win 4-2 at Barton Town and close the gap on leaders Penistone Church in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

Marc Cooper gave the Swans a fourth minute lead but Sedge’s on loan Farsley Celtic man Paul Walker equalised after a defensive error. The home side were a goal to the good at the break however as Noel Burdett netted an excellent free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Sedge levelled when substitute Joe Walton was fouled in the area and Alfie Raw netted the resulting free-kick, and they went on to win as Raw bagged his brace before Jack Hardacre wrapped up the scoring.

Sedge are now five points off top spot with four games in hand as Penistone were beaten 4-3 at Bridlington Town.

Hemsworth MW could have become the new leaders had they won but they were held to a 2-2 draw at Eccleshill United in a game of two halves.

The Wells looked to be cruising at half-time as they led 2-0 with goals from Sam Jones and Seon Ripley. But the Eagles came back with Jonny Irving and on-loan Guiseley winger Tabish Hussain on target.

Hemsworth have joined Penistone on 38 points at the summit while the Eagles moved up to 14th place.

Thackley are now the second highest of the five local clubs in the top tier after they leapt four places to eighth with a 2-0 win away at Goole AFC.

The Dennyboys dislodged the Vikings from eighth with a goal in each half at the Victoria Pleasure Ground. James Rothel gave Thackley a first-half lead and Jack Normanton doubled their lead inside the last 20 minutes.

Albion Sports remain just above Silsden, who had no fixture, and Eccleshill United after they salvaged a point from a 1-1 home draw against basement boys Athersley Recreation.

The Rec broke the deadlock through Kane Swinburn deep into the game but Marcel Chigumira equalised to see the points shared.

Campion also had to settle for a share of the spoils from their away game at Brigg Town in Division One.

The Red and Blacks were looking for a win to boost their promotion challenge against lower mid-table Brigg and they got off to a good start as Mohammad Qasim opened the scoring in the sixth minute.

The Zebras came back into the game and, when Reece Moody struck a 34th minute leveller, it had been coming. Campion had most of the pressure in the second half but neither side was able to add to the score.
