CAMPION joint-manager Lee Ashforth says signing striker Aidan Kirby is great for the club and will add competition for places during the second half of the season.

Kirby could make his debut in third-placed Campion's trip to Brigg Town in Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One on Saturday.

He joins Campion from Premier Division side Silsden, who are without a game this weekend.

Ashforth said: "It's a great signing for us. He is proven at the level above us.

"People can see the way Campion have progressed over the last three or four seasons.

"We have developed on and off the pitch, so it's not a hard sell.

"We went on a brilliant run of 13 or 14 games without losing, then we had a couple of sticky results. We needed to freshen it up a bit to keep the lads on their toes.

"It's a long season. We have a great squad. We have players on our bench who would get into other teams in this division."

Ashforth also expects a tough task against Brigg Town, who are the only side to take home points off Campion this season.

He added: "We played them in the second game of the season and we drew with them 2-2.

"There are no easy games in this league. It's a long way for us to go.

"I'm hoping after Christmas that the lads are fit enough to go again.

"There are 15 weeks left of the season and we have to stay focused for them."

Meanwhile, Liversedge will look to take advantage on games in hand on the sides around them when they travel to Barton Town.

Eccleshill United will hope to get among a tight mid-table picture but face a tough test against second-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The Eagles will be hoping they remain a scoring threat after striker Eli Hey left the club to join Colne earlier this week.

Thackley, who are 12th, have the chance to potentially move into the top eight if they can grab three points at Goole AFC.

Albion Sports have what looks like the easiest task of the weekend when they host rock bottom Athersley Recreation, who have just five points and a -54 goal difference.

Steeton hope to take inspiration from a 'ground hopper's tweet' for their home game this weekend.

Football fan Daniel Turner tweeted his top five new grounds he visited in 2019, with Bradford City's Valley Parade third, Spurs' Tottenham Hotspur Stadium second and Steeton's Cougar Park first. Chorley and Banbury United came fourth and fifth respectively.

Now Roy Mason's bottom-placed Chevrons host St Helens Town on Saturday looking to avenge a 4-1 defeat to Garstang last weekend.
