DEREK Adams is bracing himself for a hectic transfer window in his bid to steer Morecambe out of choppy waters.

The Shrimps see in the new year at Valley Parade just a point above bottom club Stevenage, who have a game in hand.

Macclesfield’s off-field woes could yet be a factor with a possible further points punishment dropping them deeper into the relegation mire.

But Morecambe’s current perilous position remains too close for comfort for Adams, who is seeking new blood this month.

The former Plymouth boss said: “We need more quality in the squad to take us forward and we need to get better players in to add that quality.

“January is going to be a busy month and we need players to come in and play straight away. We have players lined up to come in and I think it is important we do that.”

Like many of City’s recent opponents, Morecambe are not in the strongest form going into the game.

They have won only once in seven, beating Michael Flynn’s Newport just before Christmas, and have lost their last two.

Adams has been in charge since the beginning of November after six months out following his departure from Plymouth.

He felt Sunday’s loss at Cambridge highlighted the areas where Morecambe are currently lacking.

Adams added: “The game summed a few things up as it was a game that I thought was low on quality for League Two.

“We got ourselves into good positions but showed a lack of quality with the final ball especially. We either picked the wrong pass or put a cross into the box.

“We're not asking them to do anything difficult, we just want them to do the basics."
