ECCLESHILL United missed the opportunity to leapfrog mid-table rivals Goole AFC in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they went down 2-1 at home.

The Eagles were immediately below the 12th-placed Vikings with just two points separating the clubs.

It was looking good for Lee Elam’s side when they broke the deadlock early.

Skipper Jonny Irving got around Goole keeper Aidan Smith and squared the ball to Nathan Woodward and, although his effort was cleared off the line, Kesi Omolokun steered in the loose ball to give the home side a 12th-minute lead.

The visitors had already hit the post and the bar, former Guiseley and Liversedge forward Devonte Newman-Morton almost scoring either side of the Eagles’ opener, before they eventually levelled when Reagan Waud headed a deep cross past home keeper Jordan Moorhouse.

Moorhouse had a moment to forget just seven minutes into the second half when he ran out to clear but the ball went under his foot and Waud was left with an open goal as he netted the Vikings’ winner.

Thackley and Silsden also tasted defeat in their final fixtures of 2019 as the Dennyboys went down 1-0 at Handsworth, the home side’s Josh Dacre scoring the only goal of the game, while the Cobbydalers lost a five-goal thriller at Hemsworth MW.

Danny Forrest’s side came from a goal down to lead 2-1 but promotion-chasing Wells hit back to win 3-2 and hold on to second place. A brace from Harry Viggars and a Ryan Carroll strike cancelled out Josh Brown’s brace for the Sils.

Fifth-placed Liversedge kept their own promotion push on track with a 4-2 win away at struggling Bottesford Town. Early goals from Alfie Raw and Mikey Bottomley had Sedge in control early and into the second half Oliver Fearon and Jack Hardacre were both on target before the hour mark.

Sedge keeper Josh Lill’s hopes of a clean sheet were scuppered by a late brace as the Poachers hit two late goals, Kieran McCaffrey scored before Sedge skipper Tom Jackson deflected a cross past his own keeper.

A Luke Aldrich hat-trick helped Albion Sports to a big away win as they took all three points from Grimsby Borough with a 5-1 victory.

Sam Pashley had fired the only goal of the first half but the home side hit back through Adam Drury to level the scores.

Aldrich then struck a 10-minute hat-trick and Sinmi Oyebanji capped off a fine win.

There was also a hat-trick hero for Campion as Mohammad Qasim hit a treble for the Division One promotion chasers.

The Red and Blacks were 3-0 up at the break after goals from Leon Hurles-Brook, Danny Facey and a first for Qasim.

Visitors Harrogate Railway Athletic pegged one back 10 minutes after the interval through Pat Sykes.

Campion’s Qasim bagged his brace 10 minutes later but Sykes followed suit as he hit his and the Rail’s second, but any hopes of a comeback fizzled out and Qasim added his third eight minutes from time as the home side ran out 5-2 winners.
