Avenue 2, Woodley Sports 0

Benny Phillips' wish was granted as his Bradford side bagged a second victory in three days and the six points that pushed them back into the play-off zone in UniBond Division One North.

Avenue are now fourth in the table following back-to-back wins which were similar in that they were so straightforward.

After beating Chorley at the weekend, by the same score, they dispatched Woodley Sports without having to stretch themselves.

Yet had the first chance at Horsfall gone in tonight it would have been a different story, as Woodley could have opened the scoring in the third minute.

Russ Headley crossed for Lee Rick and he struck a 12-yard shot well but Avenue keeper Jon Worsnop produced a stunning save to deny the visitors.

The only goal of the first half also came early as the home side took the lead in the eighth minute.

Mike Moseley, one of the scorers in Saturday's win, beat visiting keeper Liam Higginbotham with a shot from the edge of the area.

Another swirling wind made life difficult for both teams and prevented flowing football. There were few notable moves in the game but Avenue did hit a purple patch just after the hour.

They produced three chances inside two minutes with Adam Morning, facing his former club, forcing Higginbotham into a super save. The keeper then denied Paul Gedman before Morning shot just over from 25 yards.

Gedman was not to be denied his ninth goal of the season for Avenue. A cross from Collins in the 73rd minute was clipped back in by Moseley for Gedman to turn in from close range.
