TWO second half goals earned Farsley Celtic an excellent away win at the New Bucks Head that kept them in the hunt for promotion in the Vanarama National North.

AFC Telford United dominated the first half and had the better chances but Adam Lakeland’s Celts made a positive start to the second half and broke the deadlock just before the hour mark.

Akeel Francis converted Jordan Richards’ cross to stun the home supporters. The Celts had chances to increase their lead before an own goal with a little over five minutes remaining.

Will Hayhurst drilled a low ball into the area and Bucks’ centre back Theo Street inadvertently turned it past his keeper Matt Yates.

There were some unsavoury scenes after the final whistle as Telford’s skipper Ellis Deeney picked up a second yellow card and was ‘sent off’ amid a confrontation between both teams that led to yellow cards being issued to players from both sides. The referee’s report will make interesting reading.

Brighouse Town were beaten 2-0 at home in the BetVictor North West Division by near neighbours Pontefract Collieries.

The home side had an early chance to take the lead but Carl Stewart’s fourth-minute penalty cannoned against the post.

The Colls broke the deadlock through Jack Greenhough just after the half-hour mark and Jake Pickton added their second at the start of the second period.

Brighouse boss Vill Powell was blunt and as honest as ever, the Town manager said: “The best team won, you can talk about the missed penalty but we weren’t good enough, end of.”

Steeton looked to be on course for a home win as Atherton LR visited Cougar Park but the Lancashire club snatched a draw with a stoppage-time equaliser.

The first half was goalless but the hosts took the lead midway through the second period from the penalty spot. Atherton’s keeper Ryan Garner raced off his line and collided with James Ngoe, Ben Clarkson netted the resulting spot kick.

The visitors levelled as the Chevrons’ defence left Nathan Strong unmarked in the area and he slotted past Danny Thorpe in the home goal.
