A BRADFORD City fan is hoping his fellow supporters will be out in their droves as he is plans to raise money for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation by hosting a whisky tasting evening later this month at Valley Parade.

Stephen Darby is a Bradford City legend after representing the club on 239 occasions and has played for Liverpool, Swindon Town, Notts County and Rochdale.

While at Bolton, Darby revealed in September 2018 he had Motor Neurone Disease and has been determined to generate funds with friend Chris Rimmer through their Foundation, which was officially launched last month at Anfield.

Organiser Richard Poole is hoping fans of all Darby's former clubs will support such a good cause when his event takes place on Friday, November 29.

He said: "I did a whisky event with a few friends at the start of this year which was quite successful and wanted to do another one for a cause.

"Being a City fan and hearing of Stephen’s diagnosis, I thought it would be a good idea to set something like this up as a fundraiser.

"On the night we will be tasting whiskies that generally aren’t available to buy in supermarkets, with a combined retail price of around £500.

"There will be a hot supper, auctions and a raffle. It should be quite a busy evening.

"The more tickets that are sold, the more money will be raised."

The event will take place in the 2013 Suite at Valley Parade and ticket holders will receive: five whiskies to taste, provided by a leading distributor of malt whisky, Gordon & MacPhail, complimentary Glencairn whisky glass, a hot supper of haggis, neeps and tatties (mashed swede and potatoes). There will also be an auction of a range of drinks and sporting memorabilia, raffle for the full collection of the five whiskies in the tasting and a whisky quiz and informative talk by Ben Bowers about the whiskies supplied.

The bar will be open for drinks at 7pm with the tastings starting at 8pm.

All profits from the evening will be donated to the DarbyRimmerMND Foundation.

Tickets at £55 can be purchased at whiskyfordarbs.eventbrite.co.uk.

If all tickets sell, over £20 of your ticket price goes to the charity.
