THE Rugby Football League have issued a brief response to this morning's news that Chris Brereton has stepped down from the consortium looking to take over Bradford Bulls.

A spokesman from the governing body said: "As Chris Brereton says in his statement, the RFL have been updated throughout his negotiations with Bradford Bulls over the change of ownership.

"We will continue to work with the remaining members of the consortium and are hopeful of a swift and positive outcome."

Despite Brereton's withdrawal, the consortium, which is thought to include Dewsbury chairman Mark Sawyer, is pressing on with its plans to take control of Bulls.

The planned fans forums at Dewsbury's Tetley's Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday are still going ahead.
