ARAMIDE Oteh issued a warning after City hit the League Two automatic promotion places for the first time.

Oteh scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Morecambe which lifted Gary Bowyer’s men up to third spot.

But the on-loan QPR striker insists nobody can afford to start getting carried away.

Oteh said: “It’s good to see but we’ve got to keep on going. Keep your feet on the ground and don’t get too big-headed.

“Hopefully we can cement third or push up higher. But we don’t know how far we can go until it’s there.”

Second-half goals from Hope Akpan, maintaining a run of scoring in each of his last three starts, and Oteh clinched a fifth win in seven games.

City are two points off Crewe and Exeter heading into back-to-back home clashes with Crawley and Port Vale.

“We just go game-by-game,” said Bowyer. “I know that’s a much-used cliché but that’s how we see it in the dressing room.

“They were patting themselves on the back but they were already saying it’s on to the next one.

“We’ll recover now. We had a bit of blow last week with injuries we picked up in training so we’ve got to dust ourselves down and see if any can recover.

“We’ve got a busy period coming up with a Tuesday game as well.”

Bowyer described Saturday’s result at the Globe Arena as “one of the best wins of the season”, even though bottom club Morecambe have not won at home this season.

He added: “It had been set up in the press because of that and where they currently are in the league.

“It’s one of those when you’re on a hiding to nothing. If you win, people say you should have anyway.

“But there’s no sense of entitlement with any game and we had to drum that into the players.

“In Morecambe’s last home game, Northampton had been 2-0 up and they got it back to 2-2 so we knew what to expect. They won’t die and that was the case.

“The good thing about this win is that they weren’t happy in the dressing room because they haven’t kept a clean sheet.

"But we're getting that winning culture and you saw that in a different way."

Captain James Vaughan was made to wait for his return from suspension after starting from the bench.

Bowyer admitted it was a difficult call but felt the players who had performed so well against Swindon the previous week warranted another chance.

He said: “I lost a couple of hours sleep during the week because of it. It is a case of people have got to grab the opportunity when they get it.”
