THE group planning to take over the Bulls face the urgent task of stopping more players following Jake Webster out the exit door.

Webster’s move to Keighley Cougars is understood to have come as a shock for Chris Brereton and his consortium who are in the process of buying the club from Andrew Chalmers.

They are still to be ratified as new owners and are scheduled to have a meeting with the RFL on Friday – but could already have their hands full to avoid losing more contracted members of John Kear’s squad for nothing.

There have been reports of at least one player triggering a clause in his deal to quit the club because of the issues with pension payments not going through.

Webster’s departure left the Bulls with just 13 currently under contract and the new owners will not want to lose any more potential assets. The club have a seven-day window to appeal.

The players received emails this morning from the consortium assuring them that the pension problems would be resolved and the money paid by early next month.

But the uncertainty surrounding the Bulls’ current situation continued with suggestions that general manager Russ MacFarlane has left – a rumour that was denied by sources within the club.
