DARREN Tetley is straight back in the gym today after his weekend win hoping to get a short-notice call to arms.

Tetley extended his unbeaten pro run to 19 as he kept his hand in with a points victory over Bolton journeyman Chris Jenkinson at the Bradford Hotel.

But there will be no easing off in his training now as he looks to fill the gap after a potential title fight fell through.

Tetley thought he had secured a crack against a highly-rated European prospect before the end of the year.

But his proposed opponent switched his attentions elsewhere, leaving the Holme Wood fighter back at square one.

Tetley said: “We accepted it and were told they had as well. But then something came up and he’s fighting someone totally different.

“There’s nothing planned now and that’s a shame.

“But I’ve been told I have to be back in the gym and then it’s just a case of waiting and hoping that something comes up.”

Seventeen months after lifting the WBO European title belt at Elland Road, Tetley is frustrated that more big nights have yet to materialise.

He wants another outing before Christmas to build some momentum and keep his name in the frame.

Tetley admitted: “I just want fights that my fans can get behind and get excited about.

“I won the title before and thought I was going to push on but I didn’t. I just want to be involved in big fights now, I’m not bothered with who or where.

“The worst thing is when you see other fighters get these shots and you think, ‘why am I still waiting?’

“I’ve got to do it on my own which does make things harder. But I’ve got to keep thinking positive and give it a go.

“Maybe I’ll give it next year and see how that goes. Hopefully something comes but if not, maybe I’ll have to rethink.

“I do believe that one day a big fight will come, I’ll win and then really push on.”
