TWO goals apiece from Joe Tasker and Joe Firth saw a Yorkshire Amateur League (YAL) team thump the North Riding League 6-0 in the first round of the FA Inter-League Cup Competition.

After a long absence from the tournament, the Yorkshire team had undergone a big revamp, but using players from six clubs and ably led by manager Les Nelson, they were impressive.

A fine point blank save from keeper Jordan Wright stopped the North Riding side in its tracks, before Firth's cast-iron penalty in the seventh minute opened the scoring.

Tasker’s tidy finish then made it 2-0, before a delicious through ball from Louis Surtees allowed him to finish with aplomb for his second.

After the break, a clumsy challenge gave the YAL side another penalty, converted yet again by Firth, before Nathan Smith hit a cracking 20-yard strike for the fifth goal.

Joe Firth missed a third penalty but the hard working Surtees then netted a sixth. The YAL's reward is an away fixture in the second round against the Cheshire League.

In the Supreme Division, Route One Rovers edged out Athletico in a highly-competitive derby.

A goal in each half by Sinmi Oyebanji and Danyal Yasin put Rovers 2-0 up, before Abid Khan netted an 84th minute consolation.

A young Drighlington side, who have now shipped 33 goals in eight games, slumped to a 6-0 defeat at Alwoodley, for whom Steve Dyer netted a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, St Bedes made it two wins from three with a thrilling 5-3 Premier Division victory over Shire Academics. Mo Khan and James Parkinson both scored twice, while debutant Jameel Nawaz grabbed their other goal.

Wibsey got their first three points of the season, with a fine 2-0 win over Stanningley Old Boys, courtesy of goals from Jamie Brennan and skipper Jordan Northin.
