JOHN Kear is not surprised to see Featherstone in the million pound game – but is still not looking past Toronto for the victory.

The Bulls coach has been impressed at the way Rovers have won on the road at Leigh, York and Toulouse to give them a shot at reaching Super League on Saturday.

Ryan Carr’s team have plenty of momentum heading for Canada for the Championship showpiece this weekend, although Kear feels the Wolfpack present a formidable obstacle.

He said: “Look at the Featherstone team individual by individual and there’s some absolute quality. They should be challenging and they are – and that’s credit to them.

“I thought they were very good at Leigh and put York to the sword with a ruthless and relentless performance.

“Toulouse have been scratchy and I’m not surprised they’ve gone there and turned them over. But they’ve got a hell of a task in front of them.”

Toronto had the advantage of a free week after beating Toulouse 40-24 nine days ago to secure home advantage in the play-off final for the second year running.

Kear, whose Bulls side missed out on the top five by one point, has stated all along that Brian McDermott’s side are a more formidable opponent than the Toronto that unexpectedly slipped up against London 12 months ago.

“You got an indication watching Toronto’s win over Toulouse that their big-name players were really stepping up to the plate,” he added.

“It was only 40-24 because there were two late tries from Toulouse. The game was well over.

“I thought Ricky Leutele looked brilliant. He was absolutely unstoppable in the centres.

“Toronto are going to throw some stuff at you and are going to take some stopping.

“But Featherstone will go over there full of confidence from how well they are playing.

“It’s just 80 minutes of rugby and they will be hoping that Toronto are a little off and they are inspired. It makes for a fascinating game.”
