ECCLESHILL United emerged victorious in the latest chapter of their fierce rivalry with Thackley, earning a 3-1 home win on Wednesday night in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League League Cup Second Round.

Poor Luke Wilson put the ball into his own net to gift Eccleshill the lead but the visitors soon hit back, with the talented Ben Grech-Brooksbank equalising in the 35th minute.

As the second half wore on, it looked as if the game might head to penalties, but Aran Basi, whose brother Ryan was playing for Thackley, netted Eccleshill's second in the 75th minute.

Jonathan Irving wrapped up the game with the hosts' third goal six minutes later.

Meanwhile, Campion were playing in the first round of the League Cup.

They secured a 2-1 win over First Division rivals Brigg Town, courtesy of a goal in each half from Mohammad Qasim and Aidan Day.

Tom Wilson pulled one back for Brigg, but it is Campion who advance into the next round of the competition.
