WYKE completed the treble with a commanding 28-18 victory over Ossett Trinity Tigers in the Yorkshire Men's League Division Two play-off final at Featherstone Rovers.

An incredible season has seen the black and whites win every game on their way to retaining the Bradford ARL Cup, lifting the league title and now claiming the play-off final trophy.

Wyke fans travelled in their numbers to Post Office Road but, playing down the hill, Ossett took a 6-0 lead after good approach play saw their hooker dive over.

However that would be Ossett’s last points until the last 10 minutes as Wyke took over in fine style.

Man of the match James Cullen ran straight through the line after an elusive run from hooker Oscar Woodhead, Brad Clarkson converting.

Wyke's dominant pack took the ball up the field through the fantastic Alec Williams and 80-minute prop Charles Grocock to allow winger Tevin Campbell to feed Clarkson, who then found wingman Cameron Foster, who beat his opposite number to score.

Wyke went in ahead at half-time and were quick to build on the lead in the second half. Jordan Payton found Brad Peel, who shot in to give them a 10-point lead. Cullen then grabbed his brace after fine work from influential captain Payton and loose forward Nathan Marchant.

Wyke's pack had been matched in previous games against Ossett but some ferocious tackles, particularly by Luke Robinson, forced the Tigers back.

A counter-attack, started by James Waine and backed up by Calvin Barker and Ryan Kershaw, saw lively hooker Coby Kittsen find Clarkson, who added a try to make it 24-6 with 15 minutes remaining.

A crunching tackle from Robinson saw the prop sent to the bin but Wyke scored again with 12 men as Payton and Clarkson combined for Willie Woodhead to barge his way over.

Ossett reduced the deficit in the closing stages but it was Wyke's day and they celebrated in style, with many of the juniors getting on the pitch to congratulate their senior players.

Coach Ian Wormald said: "If we take out the first ten and the last ten of that game, that’s the best we have played all season.

"Our forwards were very good and, with the early loss of Ben Kelly and Nathan Marchant getting a bad cut, they all dug in and showed their metal."

Wormald believes the success can be a springboard for even greater things.

He said: "We have had a great season and this squad, which is still very young can do bigger and better things.

"We’ve had some real stand-out leaders and, even when we lost our captain Jordan Payton to an horrendous injury and vice captain Calvin Barker, the senior players have stepped up and led from the front.

"That tells me the squad has strength in depth not only in ability but in attitude.

"My targets for the team were achieved a few weeks ago with promotion and the Bradford Cup, but this bunch of lads wanted more and achieved something no Wyke team has ever achieved.”

Wyke chairman John Rayner added: "Winning the treble has really put Wyke back on the rugby league map and, with our junior set starting to produce a consistent stream of players into the open age squad, there are exiting times ahead."
