BRADFORD Salem are holding a girls’ rugby afternoon on Sunday (1pm start).

Competing in games at the Yorkshire Division One club, apart from the hosts, are Old Crossleyans, West Park Leeds, Thornensians and Cleckheaton.

After a year of semi-regular girls rugby at Shay Lane, Salem are now running girls’ teams at under-13 and under-15 level, called the Sharks, and are trying to form an under-18 team.

“We feel that we are on the verge of something special at the club,” said Ian Dobson, joint girls’ organiser at Salem with Noel Hayden.

“We welcome any girls from school years Seven to 10 and are always on the look-out for new players.

“Any girls who are thinking of taking up the game or getting back into it are encouraged to come down tomorrow and introduce themselves.”

And in a message to parents, he said: “I’m sure there is a club there which is close to your home that your daughter can join (but hopefully it’s Salem).”
