GARY Bowyer has played down the post-match incident involving City midfielder Jermaine Anderson at Bolton.

Anderson pushed Adam Senior and a few words were exchanged after the home defender’s decisive penalty miss in the shoot-out following the Leasing.Com Trophy tie on Tuesday.

The scenes were picked up on TV and Anderson’s reaction was heavily criticised by Bolton fans on social media.

But Bowyer said this afternoon: “I just think Jermaine might have said something about the way the lad approached the penalty and nothing more than that.

“It was a great occasion for the whole of Bolton Wanderers, like I said, and there was nothing in it.”

Senior had lined up with his back to the ball before spinning round and firing his effort against the legs of City keeper Sam Hornby. Anderson was the first player over to him before being kept away by team-mates.

Meanwhile, Jamie Devitt was undergoing a scan today on his injured hamstring. The midfielder is expected to miss the next couple of weeks.
