DANNY Forrest has targeted cup progression when his Silsden side return to action this weekend.

Following a 10-day break from action, the Cobbydalers are back on the trophy trail when they travel to Newton Aycliffe in the FA Vase first round qualifying on Saturday (3pm kick-off). The side from County Durham play in Northern League Division One.

Silsden return to action following a 2-1 home derby defeat to Thackley in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

It is the Cobbydalers' second attempt at a cup run after they were beaten 4-3 by Northwich Victoria in an FA Cup extra preliminary round replay earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Silsden have made a good start to their league season with six points from their opening three games.

Forrest says he hopes his side can emulate last season's history-making run in the Vase when they reached the third round, losing to eventual semi-finalists Northwich Victoria.

He said: "We trained at the weekend. It's important to keep people together. We definitely have got things to work on despite a decent start. I don't want us to lose our focus.

"We beat Penistone and Maltby Main. They were two good results for us. But let ourselves down against Thackley, they had a right go at us. We were nowhere near what we are capable of.

"It was frustrating a little bit that we didn't get to play last weekend. We've just got to deal with it."

On his attitude to the FA Vase this season, Forrest added: "We want to win every game. Last year we got the furthest we have ever got in the FA Vase in the club's history, we need to get towards that.

"We need to keep progressing and keep producing. We're treating it seriously.

"When we played in it last year the Vase was a breath of fresh air. There is something for it for improving your momentum and confidence."
