DARREN Tetley is in talks over a potential title fight as he looks ahead to his ring return in Bradford.

The unbeaten Holme Wood welterweight is ready to put a tough period in and out of the gym behind him with a scheduled appearance on October 5.

His team are also mulling over another opportunity as Tetley looks to get his make his mark as a “free agent”.

Tetley sorted an amicable split with Warren’s Queensbury promotions in July with one year still to run on the contract, during which he lifted the WBO European title.

He has also had some personal issues and admits he cannot wait to re-focus on his boxing after a seven-month wait.

Tetley said: “I’ve had some stuff going on in boxing and personally. A lot has been happening with myself, so this is certainly a big fight for me.

“Getting out of the contract was a big thing and with the personal stuff going on, I’ve had some mental battles to overcome.

“I was going through a rough time a couple of months ago and now I just want to get back in the ring and see what it’s all about again.”

Tetley’s career has been frustrated since beating Mason Cartwright at Elland Road 15 months ago to take his first major belt in the 160lb division.

His last in action was in March when he knocked out Pal Olah at the Bradford Hotel.

“I’ve had big gaps between fights before,” added Tetley. “But this one has been a little bit different.

“I was ready to really kick on and go for it after winning that belt.

“I obviously want to be in big fights in the future but now I’m in the position where I can go it on my own.

“When you’re signed to a promoter, you’re on a set wage and guaranteed to get paid however many tickets you sell.

“Doing it yourself, you’ve got to pay for your opponent and things like that, which is hard. But it does mean that I’m available.

“If Eddie Hearn, for example, were to ring up and ask if I wanted to fight this guy on this show, I’m a free agent so I can just say ‘yeah’.

“It helps me have more of a say in negotiations. When I got promised stuff and it didn’t happen, I’d be left waiting around.

“Now, my team and I can start looking and ring people. We can look around rather than be the ones waiting.”
