CARLTON need just 19 points from their last four Championship Two matches to be sure of winning promotion to Championship One.

A century from Daniel White and another five-wicket haul for Jonathan Rudge were the key ingredients of their 124-run win over Hopton Mills.

White struck four sixes and seven fours while making 103 and gained support from Daniel Ford (42) in a total of 214-9. Mills never looked matching that score as they were bowled out for 90 with Rudge taking 5-33.

Another century maker was Birstall’s experienced batsman Eric Austin. He helped them take another big step towards promotion by making an unbeaten 101 in a six-wicket win over Bowling Old Lane.

Ten fours and five sixes flowed from Austin’s bat as he and skipper Nick Kaye (40no) shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 97 which propelled their side past the home side’s score of 190-6.

Skipper Farakh Hussain blasted 61 from just 28 balls for Old Lane in a match reduced to 28 overs per side after a delayed start. Amjid Hussain (46) and Ahsan Butt (38) were provided the platform for their skipper’s late assault.

Yeadon fading promotion challenge suffered another setback as they went down to a five-wicket defeat at home to Jer Lane in a 34-over contest.

Abubakar Dawood (56), Tom Watson (42) and Raqeeb Younis (39no) led the charge as Jer Lane chased down Yeadon’s score of 204-6 with eight balls to spare.

Yeadon’s overseas player Sarmad Hameed made an unbeaten 89 and Gareth Lee scored 33 against an attack led by Hazrat Shah (3-32).

Altofts lifted themselves out of the bottom three and boosted their hopes of retaining a place in Championship Two with a 66-run win over Buttershaw St Paul’s.

Ismail Patel produced a match-winning spell of 6-27 as St Paul’s, despite 43 from Jack Seddon, were bowled out for 113 replying to an Altofts total of 179. Azhar Sharif top scored with 57 for Altofts while Jordan Carter hit an unbeaten 33. The best of the St Paul’s bowlers was spinner Ben Platt (4-62).

Skipper Bilal Ejaz impressed with bat and ball as Spen Victoria halted their run of poor results with a 38-run win over bottom side Adwalton.

Ejaz was the cornerstone of his side’s score of 202-9 with a well-made 92 and was supported by George Deegan (32) as Vinit Patel (4-37) and Usman Shakir (4-40) plugged away.

Patel (37), Josh Bennett (34) and Will Cutt (30no) made useful contributions but Ejaz (4-43) and Michael Flathers (3-41) helped bowl out Adwalton for 166.

Northowram Fields dropped into the bottom three after suffering a 48-run defeat against Hunslet Nelson. Left-arm spinner Danny Cross (4-32) and Will Stiff (3-30) helped bowl out Northowram Fields for 137 when they replied to a total of 185-8.

Kyle Welsh (37) top scored for Northowram Fields while Jack Scanlon (37) and Gary Close (30) were Nelson’s chief contributors.

Liversedge remain second bottom with work to do after suffering a 21-run defeat at the hands of improving East Ardsley.

Louie Hurley impressed with 6-29 and was backed up by evergreen David Battye (3-32) as Liversedge were bowled out for 151 in reply to east Ardsley’s 172-9.

Skipper Will Atkin, who had earlier taken 4-46, battled hard to make 46, but could not save his side from defeat. Richard Vigars (40) and Jake Alleston (39) led the way in the East Ardsley innings.

Conference

Leaders Sandal avenged their only defeat of the season as they beat third-placed Gildersome & Farnley Hill by 91 runs.

Skipper Kristian Shuttleworth led the way with 58 and was backed up by Sam Noden (31no) as Sandal made 180-7.

Noden advanced his claims to be considered an all-rounder by taking 5-26 as he and Ryan Bishop-Perrett (3-35) joined forced to dismiss previously unbeaten Gildersome & Farnley Hill for 89.

Sandal have a 32-point lead but have played one game more than Great Preston who defeated Brighouse by 59 runs.

Australian Tyson Freeman is certainly proving to be a big hit for Great Preston. He hit four sixes and 12 fours while making 109 out of his side’s score of 220-8. Ollie Baron (50) gave him good support.

Tokir Bashir (36no) top scored as Brighouse were dismissed for 161 as Jacob Wright picked up 4-52.

Crossbank Methodists defended a modest total of 113 as they defeated Heckmondwike & Carlinghow by the slender margin of five runs in the clash between the bottom two teams

Heckmondwike & Carlinghow would have been eyeing a win when Javed Iqbal (6-28) and Paul Cooper (3-38) helped dismiss the home side, but Crossbank had other ideas.

Louis Bentley (5-30) and Imran Patel (3-39) hit back and, despite 36 from Usman Qureshi, bowled out the visitors for 108.

There was also a close game at Oulton as the home side overcame Rodley by 11 runs in another low-scoring encounter.

Daniel Hill (5-45) and Lachlan Roche (3-36) restricted Oulton to 115, but Rodley could only manage 94 in reply. Rob Young battled hard for his 47 before Joe Sykes (4-31) helped secure as Oulton win.
