THE Bulls want a George Flanagan-type in the team next year – as the banned hooker waits to find out if he will be getting a new deal.

Flanagan’s eight-match ban for “attacking the testicles” of Toronto full back Hakim Miloudi means his season is over, even if John Kear’s side make it to the play-offs.

And with his contract up, the 32-year-old will be sweating on whether he is still in the plans of his hometown club for 2020.

Flanagan’s bargaining position has been weakened by his unavailability for the remainder of the Championship campaign. He also missed two games in July after being sent off against Halifax.

But Kear feels that the team need that type of figure who plays on the edge.

He said: “We haven’t got enough of them to tell you the truth, we need one or two more.

“That might be something that we look at for recruitment for next season.

“George certainly adds something to us when he enters the field of play. The opposition definitely know he’s out there, for whatever reason.

“But the top and bottom of it is that he’s been charged, accepted the charge and been punished. That’s put it to bed.

“Obviously, it rules George out for the rest of the season. He’s out of contract at the end of the year so we’ll have to be thinking about the future.”
