CLECKHEATON claimed eighth place in the Yorkshire Union First Division Team Championship at Huddersfield Golf Club, which was won by Hornsea.

Chris Green was the standout performer for Cleck, shooting a joint-second lowest round of the day with an afternoon 69.

That contributed to a second-round team score of 222 (Tom Vertigans 78, Oliver Tasker 75) following a morning score of 231 (Green 75, Vertigans 80, Tasker 76) as their aggregate of 453 put them in the top half of the 18-club competition.

Bingley St Ives, who won the event in 2015, finished 12th, with Rob Hillas their best performer with rounds of 75 and 70.

Ilkley were second-bottom with Cookridge Hall bringing up the rear.

Hornsea's team of Matthew Raybould, Luke Robinson and Nick Raybould won the trophy with an aggregate of 440 - three clear of runners-up Huddersfield.

Malton & Norton's David Hague won the William Rayner Trophy for the best 36-hole score of the day thanks to a 70 and 67.
