A HOST of players from a Bradford-based mixed tag rugby team are in training to represent Great Britain later this year.

Leanne Jennings, Laura Elliot, Craig Churchyard, Hafa Karim, Dave Wilkinson and Millie Barraclough, of Velcrocity, successfully trialled for the GB squad last month.

They now have a busy training schedule every Sunday in London at East London Rugby Club in preparation for their first cup match against Ireland in September this year.

Long-term commitments include the 2021 World Cup. For Dave and Hafa this is their second GB campaign having played in the 2018 tag world cup held in Australia.

The players make up part of a team called Velcrocity, is a Bradford-based open aged mixed tag rugby team, the players are from the Bradford, Keighley and Leeds area.

The team compete in leagues organised by TryTagRugby, in Bradford, Horsforth, Leeds and Wakefield as well as in national tournaments all year round.

Earlier this month Velcrocity returned home as champions of the tagfest tournament in Coventry.

The team formed earlier this year, but the players have been playing together for two years.

The players are self-funded to date but with continuing success comes continual financial pressures.

The club would like to appeal to local businesses looking for an opportunity to sponsor either an individual player or the Velcrocity team.

Assistance with travel, kit and admin costs are the priority and in return business logos can be printed on Velcrocity.
